Why Anna University

Anna University was established in September 1978 as a unitary type of University by bringing together the following four institutions.

College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG)(1794) Madras Institute of Technology, Chrompet (MIT)(1949) Alagappa College of Technology, Chennai(ACT)(1944) School of Architecture and Planning(SAP)(1957). Since January 2002, it has become the largest affiliating technical university in the world having more than 220 self-financing colleges, 5 government-aided colleges, and 6 other constituent colleges from various parts of Tamil Nadu. The University offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of society.
